Two frogs and the well [колодец]

It was hot. It was VERY hot. It was so hot that the trees were sweating [потеть]. The ponds were all empty. The wells were almost [почти] dry. There were two frogs who were so thirsty they thought they would die. The younger one said:
“If we don’t drink something soon we will shrivel up [сжаться] and become tadpoles [головастиков] again.”
The old frog answered, “We need to find water right away or we will die!”
And so they hopped over the fields and far away looking for water. Soon they came to a well [колодец].
They looked into the well and there was water!  Sweet, cold water—deep, deep, deep in the bottom of the well.

Before the older frog could say, “Wait!!!” the younger frog jumped into the well and drank and drank until he was full of water.
The young frog said, “This well is wonderful! Come on, jump in!”
But the older frog said, “No! If the hot weather continues [продолжать], the water will go down [become lower: стать ниже] and then you will go lower down too!  And what do you think will happen then?”
But the younger frog would not listen.
So the older frog went on his way.  Just when he thought he could not hop one more time, he found a pond.  There was only a little bit of water, but it was enough for him to live until the rains came again.
As for the younger frog what do you think happened to him?

So the lesson from the story is:
     Look before you leap.

Sometimes you have to work HARD for a good result.
